One of the best feelings is finding a hidden treasure that only you know about. Another great feeling is being able to share that secret with an amiga – that’s why we’re letting you know about some of the best Latina-owned chocolate businesses across the United States. We know you’ll love all of their treats, and hope you won’t keep the sweet secret to yourselves.
CocoAndré Chocolatier and Horchateria
Mother and daughter duo Andrea and Cindy have created a name for themselves in Dallas, Texas as makers of some of the finest hand-crafted chocolates. Their chocolates combine traditional European techniques with modern flavors from Mexico. Who doesn’t love a family business that not only makes delicious chocolates but also empowers their local community through several community events throughout the year? We definitely do.
Exquisite Chocolates
Carolina Quijano was deeply inspired by Paris chocolatiers when she started making chocolates in her New York City apartment while working a full time Wall Street consulting job. After hundreds of attempts at making chocolate, Quijano found her winning technique and moved to Miami to start her own chocolate dream factory. Sourcing cacao from over eight single origin farms in Latin American and the Caribbean, you can score some of her treats in the community of Little Havana in Miami, Florida.
Casa de Chocolates
Two Latina entrepreneurs Amelia Gonzalez and Arcelia Gallardo opened Casa de Chocolates offering small batch, high quality chocolates in 2012. Their confections honor the Mesoamerican origins of chocolate while giving it their own unique twist of Mexican flavors like Mole, chipotle caramel, guayaba, and tequila. Their packaging is just as gorgeous as their chocolate is delicious and they would make a perfect gift for a loved one. If you prefer to pick up from their shop, you can hit up their flagship location in Berkeley, California.
HERNÁN
Founded by Isela Hernandez, HERNÁN is a brand of premium Mexican culinary products and organic chocolates from Chiapas, Mexico. In celebration of National Hot Chocolate Day, we recommend their limited edition Hernán Bolitas which are hand molded and have a complimenting cinnamon flavor. Find all of their products online and make sure to treat yourself or a loved one!
Cultura Craft Chocolate
Inspired by her culture and upbringing, Damaris Ronkanen brought Cultura Craft Chocolate to life. Inspired by Mexican techniques and flavors, she has been recognized within the industry with various awards. She hopes to honor the traditions and history of culture of where she sources cacao. You can find a little piece of heaven in her shops, located in Denver, Colorado or you can always order online! Our special recommendation? The Cabrona coffee.
