Enjoy Your Summer in San Antonio Without Spending a Dime
A fun summer in San Antonio doesn’t have to cost big bucks, especially not in this economy.

One of the nice things about summer in San Antonio is that you don’t have to spend a lot to find fun things to do.
Almost every week, there’s a free concert, community event, art exhibit, or outdoor activity happening somewhere in the city. Some have become annual traditions. Others fly under the radar.
If you’re looking for a few ideas to fill your calendar, here are some free events worth checking out this summer.
Explore Local Art Around the City
📍Multiple locations
Summer is also a great time to slow down and explore San Antonio’s creative side.
At San Pedro Library, local artist Brandon Rainbo Collen-Zajas’ Spread the Rainbo exhibition is on display through July 17, showcasing colorful abstract works that celebrate movement, emotion, and imagination.
If you’d rather explore art outdoors, take a self-guided walk along the River Walk. Start near Brick at Blue Star and head north toward Museum Reach to discover murals, sculptures, installations, and the River Walk Public Art Garden along the way.
And if you want an art-filled evening, Hotel Contessa will host Wild Bloom on July 10, a free exhibit opening featuring local artists, live music, complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres, and artist meet-and-greets.
Spend the Day at Hemisfair
📍 630 E. Nueva St
Not every summer outing needs a schedule.
Hemisfair is one of the city’s easiest places to spend a few free hours. Kids can cool off in Yanaguana Garden’s splash pads, families can explore public art scattered throughout the district, and Civic Park regularly hosts community events throughout the season. Plenty of options to enjoy!
Catch Free Live Music at Hemisfair
📍 Civic Park at Hemisfair
📅 Thursdays through July | 7–10 p.m.
Summer Setlist at Hemisfair brings local musicians to Civic Park every Thursday night, creating an easy excuse to grab dinner downtown, spread out a blanket on the lawn, and enjoy a few hours outdoors.
The event also features local vendors through The Texas Market, along with rotating food and drink options throughout the park, making it an easy night out whether you’re coming with friends or family.
Take a Free Fitness Class at Pearl
📍 Pearl Park
📅 Mondays through August | 6–7 p.m.
If your summer goals include moving a little more, Pearl’s free outdoor fitness series offers an approachable place to start.
Hosted by AMOR Cycling Studio, the classes alternate weekly between cycling and mat bootcamp workouts. They’re designed for a range of fitness levels and offer a chance to exercise outdoors while enjoying one of the city’s most popular gathering spaces.
Learn to Two-Step at Pearl
📍 Stable Hall
📅 Tuesday, July 14 | 7–9 p.m.
If you love dancing and want to leave summer with a new skill, this is a no-brainer.
Every Tuesday evening, Stable Hall offers free country dance lessons led by professional instructors. The first hour covers the basics, including two-step, country swing, and line dancing, before live music takes over so everyone can practice what they learned.
No partner or previous dance experience required!
Tarot Tuesday at Sunset Brews
📍 Sunset Brews
📅 Tuesday, July 14 | 7–9 p.m.
To get a little mystical, Tarot Tuesday at Sunset Brews by Vee Mariposa of Enchanting Energies welcomes everyone from experienced readers to complete beginners for an evening of conversation and card reading on the second Tuesday of every month.
This month’s gathering explores “Mercury Retrograde and Tarot: Rewind, Reflect & Reconnect,” with discussions about the symbolism of Mercury retrograde, tarot card pulls centered around themes like reflection and realignment, and opportunities to practice reading cards with others.
Shop Local at the Summer Artisan Festival
📍 115 Broadway
📅 Friday, July 17 – Sunday, July 19 | 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
If you enjoy browsing handmade goods more than walking around stores, the San Antonio Summer Artisan & Vendor Festival is worth a visit.
It’s a three-day outdoor market that brings together local artists, makers, food vendors, and small businesses selling everything from jewelry and home décor to candles, artwork, and specialty foods.
Even if you leave empty-handed, it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon while supporting local entrepreneurs.
Try a Beginner-Friendly Yoga Class
📍 Parman Branch Library at Stone Oak
📅 Sunday, July 26 | 3:30–5 p.m.
If you’ve been meaning to try yoga but weren’t sure where to begin, this free class at Parman Branch Library is the perfect opportunity.
Led by trained instructors from the Isha Foundation, the class covers foundational techniques such as Yoga Namaskar, Nadi Shuddhi, breathing exercises, and guided movements that can easily be incorporated into everyday life.
